Brits 'sticking to staycation trend'

Some Brits are insisting on holidaying in the UK to save money on their annual break, a new survey has shown.

A poll carried out by insolvency industry trade body R3 found that 38 per cent of people are attempting to reduce the cost of their holiday, with 56 per cent of these deciding to save cash by having a 'staycation'.

Frances Coulson, vice-president of R3, commented: "The current trend for staycations has been around for a few years, but the research highlights that the staycation's popularity has grown as a result of necessity rather than choice.'

Ms Coulson also claimed that people now see their annual break as a human right rather than an optional luxury and try their best to have a holiday whenever they can afford it.

She added that this trend will be good news for domestic tourism and will help the industry to recover from the damage caused by the economic downturn.

Earlier this week, AXA found that 23 per cent of people will go on holiday without protecting their valuables through travel insurance.
