Motor insurers 'trying to combat fraud'
Mon 26 Jul 2010 - Published in Car Insurance
Car insurance providers are trying their hardest to stop the premiums of their customers being affected by fraudulent claims, it has been suggested.
The recent AA British Insurance Premium Index claimed that the price of car insurance is being pushed up by the increasing cost of fraud.
Commenting on the report, the British Insurance Brokers' Association's technical and corporate affairs executive Graeme Trudgill said: "We get policyholders paying an extra wad of money on their motor insurance because of fraudsters. We don't want innocent people to foot the bill and do all we can to help with that matter."
Mr Trudgill also pointed out that car insurance providers have recently been involved in high profile cases to tackle motor insurance fraud, such as identifying a Manchester man who had made repeated claims for accidents he had caused himself.
According to the AA research, car insurance premiums increased by 11 per cent during the quarter to June 30th 2010 - the fastest rate the index has seen.
